Hunt rebuilds its 650B Adventure Carbon wheels with H_Core rims and a ratchet hub
By insidebike
Hunt announced a redesigned 650B Adventure Carbon Disc wheelset on 11 September at the same £949. The hookless rim is now 27 mm wide internally and 32 mm externally, 25 mm deep, against 26/33 mm before, and Hunt optimises it for 45–60 mm tyres with 35–65 mm listed as safe. Claimed weight is 1,390 g a pair.
The bigger change is inside the rim. H_Core moulds pultruded carbon hoops into the junction between rim bed and sidewall, the place hookless rims tend to crack on rock strikes. Hunt claims a significant gain in impact resistance over the previous rim but publishes no test figures. Preformed spoke patches are meant to stop pull-through.
The hub changes too: a 36-tooth ratchet with 10° engagement replaces the older six-pawl unit, laced with 28 Sapim D-Light spokes front and rear on brass nipples. Freehubs cover Shimano HG and Micro Spline, SRAM XD/XDR and Campagnolo 12 and 13; adaptors cover thru-axle and quick-release ends.
Hunt’s argument is that a 2.0–2.2in tyre on 650B matches the diameter of a 40–45 mm 700C tyre, so an older gravel frame gains volume without a geometry change. Pre-orders ship in the last week of September. Hookless-compatible tyres only, and check Hunt’s pressure table for your tyre width.
